We’ve Added a 0.2mm Nozzle for Fine Detail 3D Printing
Share
We’ve just added a 0.2mm nozzle to our Bambu Lab P1S here in Dublin. It isn’t on the quote tool yet, but it will be soon. Here’s what it means for your prints.
What is a 0.2mm nozzle?
The nozzle is the tip that the melted plastic comes out of. Most 3D printers, ours included, use a 0.4mm nozzle as standard. A 0.2mm nozzle is half the width, so it lays down much finer lines. That gives you sharper edges, crisper small details and much cleaner text and logos.
What is it good for?
The 0.2mm nozzle is made for small parts where detail matters most. Think tabletop miniatures and figures, small embossed or engraved text, jewellery-sized pieces, small mechanical parts with fine features, and scale models where a 0.4mm nozzle would blur the detail.
If your part is small, or you’ve had a print come back where the fine details were lost, this is the option you’ll want.
What is it not good for?
Large parts. Because the nozzle puts down half as much plastic per line, prints take a lot longer. For a phone stand, a storage box or anything bigger than your palm, our standard 0.4mm nozzle will give you a great result faster and for less money. Fine detail on a large flat surface is barely noticeable anyway.
How is it different from choosing a finer layer height?
Layer height and nozzle size do different jobs. A finer layer height, like our Fine or Ultra Fine settings, makes the steps on curved and sloped surfaces smoother. A smaller nozzle makes details sharper across each layer, which is what you see in small text, thin walls and tiny features. For the best detail you’d use both together. Our layer height guide explains the settings in more detail.
Will it cost more?
Yes, prices on our quote tool are based on print time and material, and fine nozzle prints take longer. You’ll see the exact price instantly once the option goes live, the same as any other quote.
When can I order it?
Soon. We’re running test prints first so we know exactly what it can do before we offer it to you. Join our email list or follow us on social media and we’ll let you know as soon as it’s live on the quote tool.
Until then, if you have a small, detailed part you’d like printed on the 0.2mm nozzle, email sales@rapid3d.ie and we’ll let you know if it’s a good fit.
