FAQ

Do you design 3D prints?

While we currently don't design files, you can discover tens of thousands of files on our portal to Printables!

Where can I get models to print?

You can use our Printables portal or you can get many models from Makerworld and Thingiverse. Other options include hiring a freelance 3D designer for specific items. Check the licence on models, since some are personal use only.

What can we not print?

Copyrighted, Trademarked or Patented Intellectual Property (without permission): You cannot print branded logos, characters or movie props without explicit commercial licensing from the creator or rights holder.

Firearms and Restricted Weapons: firearms, receivers, magazines, or weapon components.

Medical Devices and PPE: Items like surgical masks, medical-grade nasal swabs, or custom orthotics/implants.

Electrical Mains Components: high-voltage enclosures, custom AC wall sockets, or direct mains-powered electrical adapters carry severe fire and electrocution hazards.

Food-Contact Items: Standard 3D printing filaments (PLA, ABS, PETG) and layer lines trap bacteria, and many common brass or standard nozzles contain lead.

Load bearing items: Automotive suspension, steering linkages, seat mounts, tow hooks, harness brackets, carabiners, harness clips, rope anchors, rigging hardware, car seat clips, stroller hinges, high-chair joints, crib hardware, chairs, stools, hammock brackets, pull-up bar mounts, hoist hooks, crane loops, heavy lighting rig brackets, large TV mounts, heavy shelf supports, structural railing brackets.

Children's items: teething toys, dummies, small parts for under-threes, choking hazards.

Pressure and rotation: pressure vessels, compressed gas fittings, propellers, flywheels, drone parts.

Security bypass: lock picks, key copies, shims, bypass tools.

Counterfeits: currency, official seals, ID documents, branded packaging.

Gas and high heat: gas fittings, burner parts, anything near a naked flame.

This list is not exhaustive, we may refuse any order  we find unsafe, illegal or unsuitable, and will cancel and refund it before printing.

What will my print look like?

FDM printing prints objects layer by layer, so fine lines are visible on every print, along with small marks where supports were removed. FDM printing is strongest along layers, weakest between them. Keep prints away from heat. We inspect every print before dispatch and reprint anything that doesn't pass.

Introduction to us

We're Rapid3D.ie, a small 3D printing service in Dublin. Got a file? Drop it in on our custom instant quote tool, pick your material and colour, and you'll see your price straight away. The price on the quote tool is the exact price you pay, not an estimate. A person checks every file before it prints, and then it's posted to you by tracked An Post, anywhere in the Republic.
What we print
Pretty much anything you've got a file for. Prototypes, replacement parts,  pencil cases, cases and tabletop bits, display models, and a lot of student project parts. No file yet? That's grand! Our guide shows you where to find designs on Printables that are properly licensed for us to print.
PLA or PETG?
We print in both, in over 10 colours. PLA is the go-to for detail, so it's great for models, display pieces and prototypes. PETG is the tougher one. It handles heat and the outdoors, so it's better for parts that get used. Still not sure? PLA for looks, PETG for use. Our PLA vs PETG guide goes into more detail. We offer more colours in PLA.
How long it takes
Most orders leave us within 2 to 4 working days, and An Post usually gets them to you 1 to 3 days after that. Bigger prints can take longer, and if yours is one of them, we'll let you know the dispatch date after you order. Delivery is €7 anywhere in the Republic, or free over €75. The minimum order is €8.
Who it's for
Students racing a project deadline. Engineers and designers testing an idea. Makers without a printer, or whose printer's acting up. Businesses that need parts made without buying a machine to do it. We post all over Dublin, from Ranelagh and Rathmines to Dundrum, Donnybrook and Stillorgan, and right across the country to Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and everywhere in between.
Why us
Every photo on this site is a real print from our own printers. You see your price before you pay. A person checks your file, and if we get your print wrong, we'll reprint it or refund you. Simple as that.
